Thursday Film Series organizes Women’s Day Conversations

Thursday Film Series, a club of movie enthusiasts in the University of Ibadan.  Thursday Film Series engage in film screenings with pre and post screening intellectual debates and discussions. The focus of the film screenings is for social awareness and enlightenment.

 The TSFClub  as part of its mission to address topical and thematic issues in political practice,  is organizing an event for World Women’s day titled: “Celebrating Rural and Urban Activists of Women Issues”.  The discourse of the event will centre around the  , environment, economy, and gender and development. The event is part of the celebration of Women History Month, and it is also in line with this year’s United Nation Women’s theme for International Women’s Day on 8th of March “Time is Now: Rural and Urban activists transforming women’s lives”. The discourse for the Thursday event  aims to cover various issues that affect women lives, such as Gender-based Violence, Female Genital Mutilation, Access to Education, Reproductive Health and Rights and Child Marriage.      Be part of a roundtable conversation with Women’s rights activists from various spheres of knowledge. Everyone who participates in the conversation, has the opportunity to share their own views on women empowerment as well as listen to various experiences about women empowerment, gain more understanding of the Women rights movement and be informed about different initiatives in the area of women empowerment.  The event will take place on Thursday 8th of March, 2018 at Drapers Hall, Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan by 2:00 pm. 

As part of the attractions of the event, there will also be a screening of ‘MOOLAADE’, a 2004 film by Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembene. The central theme of the film is the practice of Female Genital Mutilation and its effects on its victims, which is part of the topics to be discussed at the event.
